Ben Kendall is a self-taught painter, originally from Sheffield but now based in Norfolk. His whose work explores the emotional undercurrents of landscape: the tension between stillness and change, silence and movement. He paints intuitively and his work is instantly recognisable by their layered textures, shifting light and the sense that something unseen about to happen.
Rooted in the East Anglian landscape but reaching beyond simple depiction, Ben’s work captures atmosphere rather than geography. Each painting emerges from time spent walking, observing, and responding, a dialogue between artist and place that unfolds slowly on the canvas.

Working in acrylic, oils and mixed media, Ben builds his surfaces through intuitive mark-making, scraping back and reworking until the landscape begins to breathe. What results are pieces that feel both immediate and timeless, combing classical composition with a contemporary eye.

His paintings are held in private collections across the UK and beyond. He exhibits selectively, producing limited new work each year. Ben held his debut solo show - The Way I See It - at Anteros Arts Foundation in Norwich in 2024. and was a founding curator of the city's Emerge art show. He was a finalist in the Visual Art Association's Artist of the Year awards 2025 and has been shortlisted for the Sir John Hurt Art Prize. His latest collection, The Landscape Speaks in Whispers: The Quiet Drama of East Anglia, debuted at Art Fair East 2025.
