Ben Kendall - contemporary
landscape painter
Ben Kendall is a contemporary artist originally from Sheffield and living in Norfolk. He creates bold, semi-abstract landscapes inspired by the countryside and coast he loves. His aim is to go beyond traditional representation. Instead of painting static locations, he aims to capture the energy, atmosphere and ever changing nature of the landscape.
He attributes his bold choice of palette to colour blindness and his loose style to a hyperactive brain. He is self-taught and influences range from classical composition to street art and abstract painters.
He says of his work: “I don’t want my paintings to look like the world, I want the world to look like my paintings.”
Ben has exhibited and sold work across the UK. He was shortlisted for the Sir John Hurt Prize 2023. He held his debut solo show at Anteros Arts Foundation in Norwich in July 2024. He is a co-founder and curator of the Emerge exhibition at The Undercroft, Norwich, providing a platform for local emerging artists. In 2024 he took part in Art Fair East, the most prestigious art event in the East of England. He has featured in Norfolk Magazine, the Eastern Daily Press and on BBC Radio Norfolk.
His collections can be found in a number of Norfolk galleries including The Gallery Norfolk in Cromer and The Giggly Goat in Norwich. Alternatively, his latest work can be viewed in his Norwich studio by appointment or on his online portfolio.
He also regularly participates in shows at other venues. For the very latest on where to see his work and the latest availability of original paintings, please sign up to his newsletter.
